Dangerous Food Products Detected From Four Markets

If they (peddlers) do the same thing, we will do strict action

Food products in four markets were found containing borax and formalin in the markets after the operation conducted by the ranks of South Jakarta Administration.

In the operation, 315 samples of agriculture, livestock and fishery were taken from Mayestik Market, Santa Market, Blok A Market and Radio Dalam Market. After passing through laboratory test, one sample of noodle and tofu was positively containing hazardous substances.

Containing Formalin, 14 Tons of Semar Opah Fish Burned

South Jakarta Mayor, Tri Kurniadi who led the operation said that would not give sanction to the peddler, because they should undergo guidance first.

"If they (peddlers) do the same thing, we will do strict action," he expressed, Wednesday (3/22).

While, Acting Head of South Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Sub-dept., Ali Nurdin asserted market must be supervised intensively, especially at entrance and exit gate.

"Our strict sanction is by withdrawing the product and pasting a sticker, either positive or negative packaging. Sticker tells about the feasibility of food," he expressed.

If the food is dangerous, peddler must make a statement form not to repeat the same action. "If they still ignore our warning twice, we will seal and evict them," he closed.
